Hangs run by the block, around what they're into.
A casual, local, low-key alternative to camp and tutors. Neighborhood teens and students host a hang built around a shared interest — soccer drills, debate prep, AI & coding club, garage-band jams, driveway robotics, or just an afternoon at the park. Could be after school, a weekend morning, or a full summer week — each host picks what they can offer. Easy in, easy out.
Why we exist
Local kids have real talents and real passions — sports they're great at, subjects they geek out on, things they make in their garage. Block Hangs gives them a place to model, use, and share all of that with the younger kids on their block — and inspire the next round of kids to do the same.
A few real examples
- ⚽ Soccer drills · Tues + Thurs after school
- 🎤 Debate team practice · Sat mornings
- 🤖 AI & coding club · Wed afternoons
- 🎸 Garage-band jam sessions · Sundays
- 🛠️ Driveway robotics · summer week of Jul 6
- 🚇 BART to Chinatown adventure day · one-off
Casual, but focused on a shared interest or goal.
For parents
A neighborhood teen hosts the hang
High-school + college kids from the block run it. You'll see who, where, and what they've planned before signing up.
Pick the days that fit
Every hang is different — could be one afternoon a week after school, weekend mornings, or a full summer week (often around 9 AM – 3 PM). Sign up for one session or the whole run, drop anytime.
Hosts set their own price
Each host picks their own rate — you'll see it on their hang before you sign up. Block Hangs doesn't process payments and takes no fee — you'll pay your host directly via Venmo after each day. No upfront charge, no refunds to chase. Lunches and snacks aren't included. If your kid doesn't show, just give the host a heads-up.
For teen + college hosts
Make a host profile
Tell us a few words about you and we'll write your bio. Parents on the block see who you are.
Set your own schedule
After school once a week, Saturday mornings, a single summer week — whatever you can actually offer. Build the hang around what you're into: a sport you play, a club you run, a skill you can teach, or just a thing you love doing.
Set your own price
You decide your rate per kid when you publish your hang. Parents pay you directly via Venmo after each day — a solid block of kids = a solid run of pay.
The honest disclaimer
Block Hangs isn't a licensed camp — no insurance, no background checks, no formal supervision. Parents and hosts coordinate directly. We're about connection, not control. If a hang isn't working for your kid, just don't sign up for the next one.
